What is Adipex?
Adipex-P is a name brand phentermine hydrochloride (Hcl) sold by GATE Pharmaceuticals. Oral phentermine hcl is an appetite suppressant used for short-term treatment of exogenous obesity, along with other lifestyle modifications.
How does Adipex work?
The medication works by stimulating a gland, called the hypothalamus, and affecting certain neurotransmitters to decrease appetite. Because phentermine hydrochloride is similar chemically to amphetamines, it has the potential for psychological dependency; it should be used with caution.
Are there any contraindications to taking Adipex?
You should not take Adipex if...
- You have Allergic reactions to the medication or the sympathomimetric amines
- You have Glaucoma.
- You have advanced artherosclerosis.
- You have used a momoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor within the last 2 weeks
- You have Hyperthyroidism
- You have Cardiovascular disease
- You have moderate to severe hypertension
Are there any side effects?
Common side effects include the following:
- Irritability
- Tiredness
- Depression
- Nervousness
- Sense of well-being
- Increased blood pressure
- Dry mouth
How should I take Adipex?
Adults under sixty:
Capsules - 15 to 37.5 mg each morning
Tablets - 15 to 37.5 mg each morning
Alternatively, take 15 to 37.5 mg in divided doses one-half hour before meals
Adult 60 and over:
Consult your physician a reduced dose may be appropriate
Are there other drugs that I should not take Adipex with?
Please inform your Physician concerning all medications that you are currently taking. Special consideration should be given to individuals taking the following high blood pressure medications or MAO inhibitors.
- Phenelzine
- Furazolidine
- Selegiline
- Tranylcyprodine
What are the symptoms of possible overdose?
Stomach cramps, Irregular heartbeat, Irregular blood pressure, Fever Confusion, Hallucinations, Restlessness, Tremor Panic.
What should be done in case of a suspected overdose?
An overdose of Adipex is unlikely to be life-threatening. However, if an individual takes a much larger dose than recommended, call your Physician, emergency medical services (EMS), or the nearest poison control center immediately or 911 if needed.
Can I consume alcohol while taking Adipex?
Alcohol should be avoided while taking Adipex
Can I take Adipex while being Pregnant?
Adipex has not shown to cause birth defects in humans. Prior to taking this medication , tell your Physician if you are pregnant or you are planning to become pregnant in the near future.
Should Adipex be taken while breast feeding?
Adipex may pass into the breast milk, therefore you should consult your Physician prior to taking the medication while breast feeding.
Are there any other special concerns?
After you stop taking the medication, your body may need a period of time to adjust. Adipex may affect blood sugar levels. You should consult your Physician if you have any concern. Notify your physician if you should have any symptoms of nausea or vomiting, depression, fatigue or trembling after discontinuing Adipex. Prior to dental procedures, inform your dentist that you are taking Adipex.
